Project Thunder - Another Preview

Hi there!

Since I wrote about "Project Thunder" some time past. So I decided to show you what changed since then.

It's still just a prototype, if I would make a usable level out of it, i would have to start a new level. That's because I made some mistakes, for example the water level should be much higher to make a realistic deep water. But also I cut some things, I never did a greybox to test the gameplay as another example.

That's why I'm thinking about stopping this project and move on to the Crysis Sandbox 3 Editor, with which I started to work some weeks ago. I have some ideas about what and how I could make an own Singleplayer level, building up on what I did with Project Thunder. But if I switch to Sandbox 3, I will first test out everything, write down a story, build up everything with greyboxes and so on...

But until then, enjoy the second "Project Thunder" walkthrough video :-)

Hello!

Because I'm not only doing game dev, I want to show you some of my other work. For this purpose, I created a new section at my shownd.com profil. I called it "Photography", but it will you show some other parts of my working-life:

As you can see on the first pictures, I'm also working in the event organization. My main function there is the light and laser equipment, I have to decide what we will use, where we will put them, what the main light concept will be and together with the team "InEchtzeit.ch" I'm designing the life-shows for our self-made show-lasers. At the parties itself my job is to control all the light and laser equipment. The feedback so far was always great, I think people just love the combination of fast moving light, high quality laser shows and electronic music (And it's unique around here. No club in Aarau can provide such a show).

Project Thunder - a Sandbox 2 level project

Hey everyone!

As I already wrote at the end of the last post, I'm working on a new project, it has the work in progress name "Project Thunder". It's a level I'm making with Crytek Sandbox 2 and the main reason I'm doing this, is to get more content for my portfolio, but also for more experience, and last but not least because I have so much fun, playing around with different level editors, specially if they have this flow-graph scripting tools, like Sandbox 2 or UDK, I just love to try out new things with it.

But just watch the video, it's the first time I made a walkthrough video with audio comments :)

I hope you enjoyed it. There will be another video, as soon as I implemented enough new things.

To get started, I decided to show you some older projects. I will start with the last big project I finished and going back till 2004, when I released my first real successful custom level.

Last Exit 1.1 - Level Designer Cut (2010/11)
(Unreal Development Kit)

This was my last project at Games Academy. We were around 20 students working on it for 4 months. After finishing the school, I had much free time and decided to implement all the things, which were dropped in the last weeks of developement. Because back then we didn't had enough time. That were things like overworking the camp, polishing all the materials, repositioning the bots and so on. For more informations, visit the official Last Exit Blog or go to my portfolio.

2nd semester Level Design Exam (2009/10)
(Gears of War)

To prove our experience in level design, we had to do an exam at the end of the 2nd semester at Games Academy. The requirements were very basic, we had to make 2 or 3 rooms, put some enemys in it and do some scripting stuff. I think what I did was a bit bigger, and at the end i got 29 out of 30 points for it.

Juno Beach (2004)
(Battlefield 1942 - Forgotten Hope Mod)

Back in 2004 I was working really hard with a fan made editor for Battlefield 1942, I think it was called "Custom Editor 42". With this editor, it was possible to get much more out of the game as with the regular editor. Because I had much free time, I worked dozens of hours on this level project and so I was able to finish this really big level. It was then played on several good populated servers for some weeks and I got mostly good feedback. Specially about the changing gameplay during the game, because of the different parts in the level, like an open beach, with just a few hiding places for the attacking Canadians, or the town, with only one street for tanks, but many secret paths for the infantry.

By the way... sorry for the bad quality of the video. It was my first video I ever made, so I had little experience about exporting videos for Youtube.
